Year 3
Welcome to Year 3
Indoor PE will be on Tuesdays and outdoor PE will be on Thursdays. Please ensure that you child is wearing the correct PE uniform (black jogging bottoms/shorts, white t-shirt and a blue Moorhill hoody/school jumper) on these days.
Please read with your child on a regular basis and send us DOJO messages to share how your child is getting on with their book. Please ensure that these are brought into school each day. This aids us in school by knowing what the children need to practise (fluency or comprehension).
Please reinforce times tables by using TTRockStars at home www.ttrockstars.co.uk . The children will have a username and password for this and it is important that the children practise several times a week. We will start by working on the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times table initially. If you need ideas for other ways to practise, please contact your class teacher.
As we are now in KS2, free fruit is no longer provided. Children are welcome to bring in a snack for break time, but this must be fruit or vegetables. It is important to stay hydrated, so please send your child a spill proof water bottle each day containing water. Squash or juice is fine in lunch boxes but only water should be in classroom bottles.

During the Autumn Term our topic is 'Moorhill Miners'. We will be learning about the rich local history of the area.
We would definitely suggest that you take your child along to the Hednesford Mining Museum near to Hednesford Park. It is free and has a wealth of information to support your child’s learning. We would also ask that you talk to your children about local features connected to the area’s mining history. For example, if you are passing near to Littleton, you may want to discuss the mine that was located there or point out the flywheel near to the park.
Spring
‘Tomb Raiders’ is our topic for the Spring Term.
The children will travel (virtually) on the river Nile to find out why it has been so valuable to the Egyptians. They will be use atlases and maps and develop their geographical vocabulary. They will use a variety of resources, including the internet, to answer their questions, and they will create a moveable mummy.
Summer
Our Summer Term topic is ‘Rotten Romans', during which, we will be learning all about the Romans.
