Governance

Shaw Education Trust believe in transparency and accountability within our academies and between each Academy and the Trust. The Board will provide support and challenge as required, with the aim of enabling each Academy to work towards earned autonomy.

Local governance and accountability is secured through our system of Academy Councils, with the Trust Board retaining overall legal control of its academies in line with Department for Education and Education Funding Agency expectations.

The Role of the Academy Council

The Academy Council of Moorhill is made up of a group of people from a wide range of backgrounds, who give their time freely in order to work with the Head teacher and Senior Leadership Team to ensure that every child achieves his or her full potential, by acting as a critical friend and providing challenge where appropriate.

The Academy Council carries out their functions at Moorhill on behalf of the Shaw Education Trust Board and in accordance with policies determined by the Trust Board.

Attendance

The Academy Council is made up of members of the local authority, community, parents and staff. Councillors serve a term of 4 years and can put themselves forward at the end of their term for re-election.

At Moorhill we have a dedicated team of councillors, committed to the key roles of:

  • Ensuring the clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the education performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staffs.
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
