This Spring the Reception children have been very busy being Scientists. They have enjoyed learning about Mini-beasts through the book Superworm. We have made a worm farm using stones, sand, soil, leaves and grass cuttings. We have wrote instructions, how to make a worm farm and have been Scientists, observing the worms behaviour.
The children have enjoyed going on a mini-beast hunt and finding out facts about mini-beasts. They used their questioning skills to find out more.
We have also been exploring and observing plants. They have found out about the different parts of a plant; what a plant needs to grow and even planted their own sunflower seed.
To continue our Scientists, work the children have loved watching the chickens come to life. From egg to chick. It has really put the chick life cycle into real life. We observed, questioned and predicted what would happen. It has created great conversations, lots of new vocabulary and lots of questions.
Alongside the chicks, the children have loved roleplaying the story of the Ugly Duckling. They have used a story map to draw, label and talk about the beginning, middle and end of the story. We finished our term with a fabulous Easter Bonnet Parade and Easter Craft.
